McCallum Named Part-Time CEO Of HRBC

Harness Racing BC recently announced that former Surrey City Mayor Doug McCallum has been hired by HRBC as a part-time CEO to help meet operational goals

.

Via release, HRBC stated that it believes McCallum is a good fit with the organization for the coming years. The organization also stated that it hopes McCallum's expertise in areas of fundraising and sponsorship will be beneficial to harness racing in the province of British Columbia.

“We are looking forward to working with Doug,” HRBC President Jim Vinnell said. “He will help in setting up a plan of operations and achieving its goals, as well as be [of] great assistance in the area of sponsorship and fundraising.”

McCallum has been involved in Surrey City politics for many years and has extensive contacts throughout the city and province. He first held a seat on Surrey City Council, and during this term he was Chair of the Finance Committee and sat as a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Library Board.

McCallum was elected mayor in 1999 and again in 2002. He brings with him valuable experience and a desire to help harness racing, not as a political lobbyist, but as someone that can help generate financial support and awareness in the community of Surrey.

“I hope I can help support the industry and the jobs that come with it,” McCallum was quoted as saying. “And even, if all goes well, increase those jobs.”
