Another Five-Bagger For Sparling Jr.
For the second consecutive Saturday night, driver Robert Sparling Jr. put together a five win performance at Hiawatha Horse Park with two of those victories occurring in the End Of Series Claiming Series
for $3,500 claimers.
Sparling Jr. captured half of the $2,700 second leg End Of Claiming Series divisions with repeat winner J L Tiger (1:56.3) and Route Forty (1:55.4).
Vetern pacer Route Forty converted from the pocket to win his End Of Claiming Series split for Sparling Jr. by one and three-quarter lengths. Running Water (Alfred Carroll) was second and pacesetter Secret Raider (Michael Clark) was third. The 13-year-old Life Sign-Turnpiker, who is trained and owned by Carver Sullivan, has won six of his 17 starts so far this year.
J L Tiger and Sparling Jr. advanced first over to win another division by five and a quarter lengths. Sports Passion (Mark Pezzarello) and Vegas Venom (Alex Lilley) rallied from the backfield to finish second and third. The eight-year-old son of Lantern Light-Madcap Heiress has won 10 times in 30 seasonal starts for trainer Joe Pereira and The Merks Stable of New York.
Sparling Jr. also won with maiden-breaker Bridge Jumper (1:58.4) for trainer Katheryn Cocherane and swept the final two races with Laetici Maslia trainees Zeph Lyon (1:55.3) and Positivlydangerous (2:00), who extended his win streak to three. He now boasts 145 wins on his 2010 record and is just seven wins away from reaching 500 career wins.
The other series winners were King Dermot (1:56.4) and Johnny Drama (1:57.2).
