Wood On Man Vs. Horse Race

Just as many valiant performers do, Nick Wood just got nipped at the wire Saturday at Truro Raceway. Although, the thing is that Wood wasn't facing off against his own ilk -- he wasn't even competing against his own species

.

During Saturday's Atlantic Breeders Crown festivities, Wood went toe-to-toe with River Cane, which, according to an article by the Truro Daily News, has been identified as the largest standardbred in the province.

Nick Wood Vs. Arcane Hanover

The six-year-old Arcane Hanover gelding was required to do two laps of the half-mile Truro Raceway oval. Wood was required to do one lap. Although Wood just got nailed in the vicinity of the wire, he told the Truro Daily News that he was "pretty happy" with the result.

In regard to trying to block out River Cane as the gelding closed in on him, Wood said: "I had to ignore him about 100 metres into it." He went on to say, "Once you hear him coming, it's hard."

The Truro Daily News also quotes many that were in attendance on Saturday, and cites ABC committee member Kyle Burton as saying that it is possible the event may be on the docket again next year.
