Brown Jr. Scores Colonial Training Triple
Trainer Manley Brown Jr. had a training triple Saturday night at Colonial Downs, including a win in the $6,000 Winners Over feature race
.
John Wagner directed Susquehanna Belle to a wire-to-wire victory in the feature for Brown, his first win on the card. The four-year-old mare set a 1:55.3 speed mark at Colonial last fall, and shattered that Saturday by over a full second on a warm clear evening. She cut fractions of :27.4, :55.4 and 1:24.4 before crossing in 1:54, one-half length over Royal Photo.
Dr. Scott Woogen drove Brown’s second winner, Winsmith Molly, to victory in the eighth race, a non-winners of two races event. The three-year-old filly pacer surged from fifth to second with a first over trip in the turn and Woogen’s charge held off fast closing Coastisclear at the wire. Winsmith Molly’s finishing time of 1:54.2 shattered her prior best by over three seconds.
Brown got his hat trick next race with John Wagner back in the bike. Hit The Mark, making just his second start of the year, scored an easy wire-to-wire triumph by seven lengths in 1:56.4. The Striking Sahbra gelding was coming off a 13 length defeat in her only start, but a big class drop helped.
