Penn National Wins Vs. Cordish

In a battle between two giants, Penn National Gaming has won a victory against the Cordish Companies over its right to bankroll opposition to the hotly controversial proposed Arundel Mills casino that Cordish wants to operate

.

Penn National contends it has the right to spend money to protect its new casino in Maryland and its operation in neighboring West Virginia, and Attorney General Doug Gansler has agreed.

In a 10-page opinion, Gansler said Penn National’s Maryland operation does not bar it from campaigning against another casino’s zoning laws.

“Ultimately,” Gansler said in his opinion, “the people will decide the issue at the ballot box.”
