Lower Takeout, Added Money At Pocono
"With the fixed post times that have been set weeks in advance, I think everyone's pretty comfortable that they can run their on-track product and we can drive the Breeders Crown product
through the night as well."
With 12 of the finest fields harness racing has to offer, this Saturday's Breeders Crown spectacular offers a near dream card to the racing fan. According to Mike Kimelman, the night is offering the bettor a great card as well. Pocono's wagering menu serves up a $10,000 Added Early Pick 4, a $20,000 Added Pick 6 and 15 per cent takeout. Kimelman notes that Australia will pick up the Breeders Crown card for the first time and many tracks will be arranging post times to allow for customers and fans to watch and wager on their local track and the Breeders Crown simulcast without missing a minute of action.
Trot Radio's Norm Borg also asked Kimelman his thoughts on the current SC web poll, where the majority of voters are in favour of cutting purses if it would fund network TV coverage of the Breeders Crown.
"Most of the time people get nervous about cutting their own purses too dramatically, that said if we don't invest in our own future collectively it's hard to imagine having a future. I do think we have to find ways to reach out and get that air time, for sure.
"The product is good; one of the problems we have is that we do advertise to ourselves. If we're going to build it bigger it needs not to be what really is a great secret. You can have a tremendous amount of fun in this business and you can make money in this business, but somehow we do fall down when it comes to attracting new people to this business."
