Spaniards Vs. Americans Tuesday
If racing fans happen to check the drivers slated for Race 6 at Monticello Raceway on Tuesday, September 28, they’ll find four unfamiliar names that will be among the eight drivers listed. This is because the race has been designated an international amateur driving contest between Spain and the U.S.
“We are very honoured to be hosting the Spanish drivers, all of whom are from Majorca," noted Catskill Amateur Club President Gerry Fielding, whose group organization is hosting the group. "Though harness racing is not very prominent in Spain, on the other hand it is in Majorca. In fact it was the drivers from Majorca who represented Spain in the recently-contested World Cup of Amateur Racing in Paris, France in late July.”
Taking seats behind pacers on Tuesday and driving for Spain will be Pau Rig, Bartolome-Juan Tous, Santiago Roig and Joan-Antoni Segui, all of whom are veteran amateur drivers from the largest and second-most populated island of Spain. Driving for the local Catskill Amateur Club will be members Kenny Heins, Scott Woogen, Alan Schwartz and Gerry Fielding.
Spaniard Bartolome-Juan Tous has drawn the morning line favourite, Look Sharp Jack, and will start from Post 4. Gerry Fielding will handle the second choice, Lemon Drop Hall, from the pole position.
