Horse Owners Recruited Online

Thirty-five-year-old Karl Nobert didn't find his most recent partners for horse ownership in the paddock, the grandstand or an OTB for that matter. He found them on Craigslist, the popular online classified advertisement website

.

An article by The Washington Post explains that Nobert didn't have many choices. After having purchased a pair of two-year-old thoroughbreds, Nobert didn't find many people in his existing social network which wanted to purchase pieces of the youngsters. That is when he turned to Craigslist and found many willing to get on board.

The report states that a couple of months after having placed the ad on Craigslist, Nobert had up to 50 inquiries. Some respondents were part of large, well-established groups, while others wanted to invest just a couple of hundred dollars in a one per cent stake.

The article explains that the first respondent to sign on via the Craigslist connection was Pentagon employee James Ortiz, who was later followed by retired Coast Guard officer Howard Shaw.

"I'm a Craigslist junkie, in terms of buying used truck parts or old guitars," The article quoted Shaw as saying. "I read the write-up and I've never seen anything like that on Craigslist."
