All Spirit Takes Tioga Mares Open
All Spirit and Jimmy Marohn Jr. took home Friday night’s featured $15,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Tioga Downs
.
The duo settled in third as Billie Bluechip (Bruce Ranger) and Diva Delight (Brandon Simpson) were in an early dispute to the quarter with Diva Delight winning the early battle to the quarter in :27. Ranger moved Billie Bluechip back to the front and past the half mile pole in :56.2 as Marohn got All Spirit ready for the first over brush.
As the field reached the three-quarter mile mark of the race, All Spirit had taken the best away from Billie Bluechip clearing by three quarters in 1:24.2 with her only threat left on her back in the form of Lucy Lucy (Corey Braden). However, All Spirit had too much left in the tank for Lucy Lucy and sprinted clear of her rival down the lane to take home her fourth victory of the year in 1:52.4. Lucy Lucy hung on for second, while Nillabomb (Mike Micallef) paced home late for third.
Tim Lanpher trains the four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Spirit Of Ivy for Larry Lanpher of Winter Park, Florida and with the win All Spirit increased her career earnings to more than $245,000.
Also on Friday night was the $11,400 final of the Fred Apker Memorial Trot, and K M Sweet Dreams and Corey Braden left from post position number nine and then turned loose the favourite Jaguar (Fern Paquet Jr.). Braden kept K M Sweet Dreams in the pocket through fraction of 27, 58.3, and 1:27.4 before challenging around the final turn and opening up in the stretch to win in 1:58.2.
Bruce Ranger posted a four bagger on the night’s 11-race card, and now only trails Corey Braden by three wins for 2010 driver of the year with one night of racing left on Saturday, September 11 with a post time of 6:50 p.m. Closing night at Tioga Downs will also feature a 2009 Nissan Versa Car Giveaway, tribute video to 9/11, plenty of giveaways including MP4 Players, fireworks, and much more.
