Starting Gate Injures Five Fans

It has been reported that five patrons taking in the races at the Windsor Fair in Maine on Labour Day were injured when they were hit by the starting gate prior to the 13th race

.

An article by The Kennebec Journal explains that the fans were standing along the rail roughly fifty feet past the starting line when they were struck by the gate as the vehicle it was mounted on sped away.

The piece goes on to state that Ray Chavarie, director of Windsor Rescue, confirmed three victims were transported to the hospital in three ambulances. The two others were treated at the scene.

The article did not explain the extent of any of the injuries.

"I was standing here watching the race and all of a sudden it looked like something silver was coming," the article quoted Elaine Bennett -- who was treated at the scene -- as saying. "I turned my head . . . and it hit the side of my face."
