Favourites Deliver In NLSBA Stakes
Rookies and sophomores shared the spotlight at St John’s Raceway on Monday, as the Newfoundland oval hosted a set of $3,400 divisions of the NLSBA Stakes
.
Coral Sea trounced his freshmen foes by a whopping 27-1/4 lengths in a time of 2:05.3. Farmers Gal was the second one under the finish line, with Tobins Scholar rounding out the top three in what was a lopsided affair. The son of SS Sand Dollar-Secret Diedentity led through panels of :30.2, 1:01 and 1:32.4 before coasting home in :32.4 to seal the deal for the tandem of driver Shane Forward and owner/trainer Walter Deering of Shearstown, NL.
The colt, who was a $2,000 purchase from last year’s Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale, now owns a 3-1-1 record in six starts.
Our Ryall Flush beat the boys in the sophomore division, but she got a bit of help from the Judges’ stand. The officials on hand placed the eventual winner, Quickcam, who made a break while making a bid for the lead. Somewhere along the way he violated the rules of racing, and that lifted runner-up Our Ryall Flush into the top spot. The filly, who was just a half-length behind Quickcam, earned a 2:03.4 record by defeating Dontbenervous and Victors Passion.
Shane Forward mapped out the winning trip with the daughter of Toofunnyforwords-Ma Parker, who is owned and trained by Carl Ryall of Goulds, NL. It was the pacer’s seventh win of the 2010 campaign from just 16 trips postward, and the lion’s share of the purse booster her career bankroll to just over $6,000.
