Summertime Series Second Leg at Mohawk

Little Thief and Sams Dragon both emerged victorious in Saturday's second leg of the Summertime Pacing Series for three-year-old colts and geldings at Mohawk Racetrack.

Little Thief, who was a runner-up in leg one of the series, was the faster of the two winners by virtue of his 1:51.2 clocking for driver Mark MacDonald in the opening $18,000 division. The son of Mcardle - Arts Golden Lady sat inside in mid pack for much of the mile before finding clearance late to prevail by a head.

Longshot Immachulate raced gamely first over and held on for second with Todd J H Hanover rallying for the show spot. Round-one winners Space Walk and Smile Fromeartoear finished off the board.

It was the sixth win in 13 trips postward this season for the Michelle Bohrer trainee. The victory increased his seasonal earnings to just over $55,000 for owners Brian Gordon, Stephen Gordon and 4 West Group.

Sams Dragon took advantage of a slow middle-half pace, brushed to the front in the second quarter and then held on for a half-length decision for Mike Saftic in 1:53. The son of Dragon Again - Artifact turned back Windsun Thunder, who made a break before the start, with Camythical picking up the show spot.

The Garth Gordon-trained colt was winning for just the second time in 11 starts this season for owners James Walker and Hugh Sutherland.

The $60,000 (est) Summertime Series Final will go next Saturday night at
Mohawk.
