"I think Northlands is taking a stand here. They obviously don't want standardbred racing anymore," stated Matt Monaco, executive director of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA).
In a very revealing article by Curtis Stock in today's Edmonton Journal, various industry participants weigh in on the state of the industry in Alberta after a three-year deal was struck between the HPBA and Northlands earlier this week – a deal with no dates for harness racing.
"Our customers have said pretty loud and pretty clear -- based on their betting patterns and attendance -- which breed they would prefer to support," Northlands gaming and racing manager Les Butler told the Journal.
