Shipps Xpectancy Surfaces
Until this morning's qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack, Mach Three gelding Shipps Xpectancy hadn't raced since December 5, 2009. With Jack Moiseyev driving for trainer John Kopas, the four-year-old gelding got right back on track
.
Having left from Post 7, Moiseyev and Shipps Xpectancy sat the pocket through fractions of :28.4, :57.4 and 1:26.1. Moiseyev and the gelding got up by one and three-quarter lengths and stopped the clock in 1:56.2.
From 33 career starts, Shipps Xpectancy has paced to a record of 9-4-5, taken his mark of 1:50.2 over Woodbine Racetrack and banked $483,193.
In total, seven qualifying dashes went postward this morning, the fastest of which was won by A Ps Money Maker, who was putting in her first charted line after having a couple weeks away from the racing battles.
After having started from Post 6 in Race 4, A Ps Money Maker, a five-year-old Cardmaster Hanover mare, was up on the front-end with driver Rick Zeron.
Zeron and the Travis Umphrey-trained mare yielded the lead at the :27.4 opening quarter, but were overland in search for the engine when they tripped the opening half-mile marker in :56.4. Having tussled with attackers when the three-quarters clock sprang up in 1:26.4, A Ps Money Maker would give up the lead in the stretch but come back on for a one and three-quarter length win in 1:54.3.
Juveniles were in action in Races 2, 5 and 7.
Race 2 saw the Jack Darling-trained and Mario Baillargeon-driven Art Major colt Jepson Hanover convert a pocket trip and notch a three-quarters of one length victory in 1:57.
The trainer/driver combo of Ben Baillargeon and Mario Baillargeon clicked in Race 5 with Here Comes Herbie gelding Don Pietro, who also converted a pocket ride and posted a two and a half-length win in 2:01.3.
With Randy Waples steering for trainer Chris Beaver, Here Comes Herbie filly Honey Thorn made every pole a winning one in Race 7, where she went on to post a two and three-quarter-length win in 2:04.
The other victorious horses during the session were Angostura (1:58) and Reach Higher (2:00.1).
