Track Records Fall At E.P.R.
Stars of the Atlantic Sires Stakes program were out in full force at Exhibition Park Raceway on Tuesday, and the Liquid Paper bottle was needed for the track record book
on two occasions.
The undefeated Putnams Power shaved one-fifth of a second off the track record for two-year-old pacing colts when he took his $8,180 “A” division of the A.T.S.S. in 1:58.3 for trainer/driver Danny Romo. The son of Force Of Life-Southview Shania sat fourth to the quarter pole before blasting to the top and slicing out middle panels of :59.1 and 1:29. A :29.3 final frame sealed the deal for the colt who fended off runner-up New School by half a length. The Eagle was third.
Sent off as the 2-5 choice, Putnams Power is still flawless in seven starts for partners Ronald Seymour, Jr. and Bruce Donovan of Glace Bay, NS. The youngster has banked in excess of $22,000 to date.
Howdidchado (1:59.2) and The Streak (1:59.2) captured the other $8,180 “A” divisions for the two-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
Acton Normal blazed over the half-miler in 1:58 in her $6,900 A.T.S.S. division, and in doing so she knocked two seconds off the track standard for two-year-old pacing fillies. The daughter of Toofunnyforwords-Call It Life and driver Shane Bernard led the field through fractions of :29.1, :58.2 and 1:28.4 before scooting home in :29.1 to secure the win. It was 4-1/2 lengths back to runner-up Moon Landing, with Ultimate Spirit grabbing the show dough.
After losing her first three starts, Acton Normal has reeled off four straight wins for owner/trainer Tom Weatherbie of Charlottetown, PEI. The victory bumped her cash stash to $7,595.
Honey Do Jigtime (2:00) and Forceful Putnam (1:59.3) found their way to victory lane in the other $6,900 “A” divisions for the freshmen pacing fillies.
Balbriggan Fox (2:00.4) took the lone $2,500 “B” division of the A.T.S.S. for the two-year-old pacing colts and geldings while Sunnysidegal (2:04.3), Circlethewinner (2:04.3) and Camco Paula (2:05).
