Clayton MacLeod Passes
With great sadness, the family of Clayton Ray MacLeod has announced that the horseman passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29 in Truro's Colchester Regional
Hospital. He was 82.
MacLeod was a member of the United States Trotting Association and Standardbred Canada for over 50 years. He campaigned at tracks in Maine, New York and the Maritimes. His pride and joy was his little free for all mare, Iola Henley, who won 103 dashes and set a track record of 207.2 in 1952 in Truro. He received many awards with the last being from the Government of Nova Scotia for his contribution to harness racing in 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Jean (MacGillivary); sons, Stephen (Valerie), Onslow Mountain, Donald, Greenfield; grandsons, Jason Donald, Fredericton, NB, Jamie Ray, Truro; sisters-in-law, Eyleen MacLeod, Bible Hill, Reta Leavitt, Ontario, Vera Crockett, ON, Joyce (Weldon) Murray, Trenton, Ann Duggan, Westville, Mary Lou (Barry) MacKenzie, Antigonish, Connie (Allan) Fulton, Stellarton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Theodore; brothers-in-law, Douglas (Lilly) Arthur MacGillivray, Kenneth Leavitt, Bruce Crockett; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Gus) MacDonald, Midge (Ken) Linton.
There will be no visitation, by request. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. David Lutes officiating. Reception to follow the service. Interment in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. in Alma, Pictou County.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB or a charity of choice.
