Condi Lane Lowers Record In Bud Light
Condi Lane withstood an early park out and never looked back on Friday at Flamboro Downs, front-stepping her way to victory lane and setting a new track record for three-year-old trotting fillies in her $40,958 Bud Light Stakes division.
Condi Lane was the easiest of winners in the first of three divisions for driver Dave Boughton. The Striking Sahbra – Meghans Memories filly was parked to an opening quarter of :28 before taking command from Countess Stormont (Garrett Whelan).
Once on the lead, Condi Lane trotted effortlessly through panels of :58 and 1:27.2 en route to a three and a half-length triumph in 1:57. Countess Stormont finished second after a two-hole trip and Arbor Hanover (Paul MacKenzie) rode the rail to third.
Her 1:57 mile shaved a fifth of a second off the previous mark, which was set by Mccall Magic in 2004.
Bob Young conditions Condi Lane ($3.40) for owner Robert Deveau. After going winless in five attempts as a freshman, the filly is 3-3-0 in seven seasonal starts with earnings of $56,479.
In the second split, Only Lonely, who left from Post 1, was playing give-and-go with Tymal Mystique (Trevor Henry) as she took back the front for driver Robert Shepherd in :29.
The Yankee Paco – Too Good For You filly cut fractions of :59 and 1:28.3 on the front, and then opened up in the lane to win by a length and three quarters in 1:58.2 Magical Wand (Randy Fritz) came on to grab second over pocket-sitter Tymal Mystique.
Only Lonely ($3.80) is owned by Tom Crouch and hangs her harness bag in the stable of Chris Beaver. The filly is three-for-10 in 2008 with a bankroll of $78,503.
Ms Naughty went gate-to-wire in the third tilt for driver Keith Oliver and trainer Dan Creighton. The daughter of Kadabra – Ms Vic set the tempo in :29.1, :59 and 1:29.3.
In the lane, Ms Naughty held off challenges from Travelin Supergirl (Paul MacKenzie) on the outside and Gaelic Mistress (Steve Byron) up the inside to score by a length and a quarter in a lifetime best 1:58.3.
Ms Naughty ($5.80) was bred and is owned by Marvin Katz, Sam Goldband and Al Libfield. She went winless in eight tries in 2007, but is now two-for-eight this year while putting $34,229 into the bank.
