Chancey Lady Wins In 1:48.4
Former O’Brien Award winner Chancey Lady turned in a monster mile at Harrah’s Chester Racetrack on Thursday afternoon when she toured the five-eighths mile oval in a jaw-dropping clocking of 1:48.4
in the $32,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace.
The five-year-old daughter of Camluck-Art Of Design stepped to immediate command for driver Andy Miller, who rolled the Mark Kesmodel trainee through wicked fractions of :26, :54.2 and 1:21 before storming home in :27.4 to stop the teletimer in 1:48.4. She wound up winning by 7-1/2 lengths over runner-up Omen Hanover. Cuz She Can was a distant third.
Chancey Lady, who is owned by the Estate of Niele Jiwan of Burnaby, BC, won for the fifth time this season and for the 26th time in her career. The career winner in excess of $1.4 million is now the fastest daughter of Camluck, surpassing Dreamfair Eternal who owns a mark of 1:49.
The 1:48.4 clocking came within one-fifth of a second of Southwind Tempo’s world record of 1:48.3 for five-year-old pacing mares on a five-eighths mile oval. Southwind Tempo established the record at Harrah’s Chester Racetrack on April 26, 2009.
