N.Y.S.S. Sophs Spar In Scarsdale Trot

A night after the freshmen came to play, Yonkers Raceway welcomed their immediate elders. Tuesday evening’s $281,050 New York Sire Stakes Scarsdale Trot for three-year-old fillies went in five divisions

Munis Blue Chip (Ray Schnittker) did nothing to diminish her standing in the sire stakes sewing circle, strolling in the second non-wagering division.

Sent right to the lead from post position seven, she waltzed through intervals of :29, :59.4 and 1:29 before stepping home in :30.1 for the 1:59.1 score over Platinumatic (Jeff Gregory). Theregosmyvacation (Cat Manzi) was third.

Munis Blue Chip, a daughter of Credit Winner co-owned by (trainer) Schnittker, Arnold, Silva and Blue Chip Bloodstock, is now batting .500 this season (6-for-12) and career (11-for-22)., with lifetime earnings over $410,000. She's won her last three (NYSS) tries.

Southwind Samurai (Pat Berry) showed her class to the evening's softest group, winning the $56,410 fourth event as the 1-4 favourite. She stared down a spirited effort from Sheezacredit (John Stark, Jr.), winning by a measured half-length in 2:01.1. Forgotten Luck (Greg Merton) was third.

For Southwind Samurai, a daughter of Conway Hall trained by Bjorn Noren for owner Scuderia Giuliano, she returned $2.50 is now 4-for-8 this season with earnings in excess of $191,000.

"She's really better on a big track, but she had no problems at all here," Berry said. "Never popped the plugs, never asked her."

The evening's final ($56,410) state-bred event produced the fastest mile, a 1:58 effort from Frosty Flirt (Gregory). she took over from Tuesdays With Mom (George Brennan) after the opening quarter, then the two choices staged their own private match race.

Frosty Flirt ($3.20) held off her rival by a half-length, with about 10 lengths back to Gabbys Creditcard (Dan Cappello, Jr.). Frosty Flirt, a daughter of Plesac owned and trained by Tracy Brainard, is 7-for-11 this season with four consecutive (NYSS) wins.

"She's a big, strong filly, and that gives her an advantage over a lot of them," Gregory said. "I know all about Tuesdays with Mom, and we beat a good horse tonight."

Tuesday night's other Scarsdale divisions, each worth $56,410, were captured by To Lindys Credit (2:00) and Viva Las Lindy (2:00.3).
