Schnittker Talks 'Dewey'
"He's the one to beat now. I hope to get this pressure every year. And hopefully I can win it (the Hambletonian)," Deweycheatumnhowe's trainer, Ray Schnittker, told the Times Herald-Record.
The 50-year-old trainer has had a polished career conditioning standardbreds, although the illustrious 'Hambo' is one of the feats that has eluded the resident of Middletown, New York.
In his career, Schnittker has started two horses in the Hambo -- Armbro Plato in 1997 and Armbro Trick in 2000. Both horses trotted to third-place finishers in the big dance.
"When you get beat, you always try to figure out what went wrong," Schnittker said. "Hopefully, I've learned from those two races. The Hambletonian is the only thing missing."
Schnittker also states in the article that 'Dewey' will be retired at the end of the 2008 campaign.
