This Is Wyatt The Speediest In O.S.S.
Six divisions of O.S.S. Grassroots action for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings went postward at Grand River Raceway on Monday evening, and when it came to serving up speed nobody could match the
speed kicked out by This Is Wyatt.
The son of Astreos-Kindly Jenna, who benefitted from pocket trip in his $24,000 assignment, drew off to win by a pair of lengths in 1:53.2 – the fastest clocking turned in during Monday’s O.S.S. action at the Elora, ON half-miler.
This Is Wyatt sprinted past front-stepping Luckcamotion, who settled for the runner-up award despite being sent off as the 7-5 favourite. Third prize in the tilt went to Toughest Of All.
Joe and Karen Hudon of Acton, ON share ownership on the homebred gelding, who has put together a 3-3-3 record in 17 starts this season. Despite being unraced as a rookie he has stashed away $59,610 to date.
Ciona Bromach used a :28.1 closing kick to propel himself to a 1:55.1 victory in the first division on Monday evening. Scott Coulter mapped out the come-from-behind trip for the son of Peruvian Hanover-Clonlara T, who is owned and trained by Debi O’Brien Moran of Wrightstown, NJ. The colt defeated Tigers Mattjesty and Milliondollar Art.
Little Gold Ring didn’t let a first-over trip keep him from making a trip to victory lane in the second division for the tandem of driver Robert Shepherd and trainer Shawn Robinson. The son of Western Terror held on to win by three-quarters of a length over runner-up Andy Baran, who Modern Valentine finishing a distant third. Doron Mikdash of Panama City, PAN holds the papers on the gelding.
Texas Seelster made a quarter-pole move to the lead in his $24,000 assignment, and that proved to be the winning move for the gelding who went on to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:54.3 for the team of driver Scott Zeron and trainer Scott Barr. The son of Western Maverick-That Day only needed a :30.1 final frame to seal the deal over Political Terror and Wellthereyougo. The lightly-raced youngster is now a three-time winner in six tries for owners Robert and Barbara Parker of Dorchester, ON.
Mister Russ was the beneficiary of a perfect pocket trip in his O.S.S. Grassroots assignment, and the son of Rustler Hanover-Bon Bini didn’t let it go to waste for driver J.R. Plante. The gelding, who is trained by Joe Pereira, used a :29.2 closing quarter to prevail by a head over Encore Seelster in a time of 1:56. Ise The By Boy rallied from out of the clouds and fell just a half-length short of winning from a very tough spot. The Merks Stable of New York, NY owns Mister Russ, who was a winner for just the second time this season in 14 trips to the track.
Sniper Seelster made up a pile of ground in the final half of his division en route to winning by 2-1/2 lengths in a time of 1:55.3 for driver Robert Shepherd. The Tracy Wilcox-trained son of Western Maverick-Sporty Lucy fired home in :28.3 to soundly defeat runner-up Modern Era and third-place finisher Grin For Money. Kristina Wilcox of Windsor and Timothy Wilcox of Tilbury, ON share ownership on the gelding, who improved his 2010 record to 4-2-1 in eight starts.
The next O.S.S. Grassroots event for the three-year-old pacing colts and geldings will be held at Sudbury Downs on September 15.
