Track Record Mile In Lady Crocus

Two divisions of The Lady Crocus for three-year-old pacing fillies, co-sponsored by Standardbred Canada and the MSSBA, were contested at the Holland Fair on Saturday, and fans were treated to a track record performance

Heartland Friendha erased My Friend Flicka’s former mark of 2:01.2 for three-year-old pacing fillies when she stormed home to win by 7-1/2 lengths in 1:59.3 for driver Philip Giesbrecht and trainer Marc Filion. The daughter of Firm Friend-Hah led the field through splits of :29, :59.2 and 1:29.2 before scooting home in :30.1 to seal the deal. Albertas Dragon was second under the finish line, and third prize went to Deziree Belle.

Allan and Carole Drader of Brookdale, MB own the track record-setting filly, who improved her sophomore record to 5-0-2 in nine tries with the win. The six-time winner has managed to stash away more than $14,000 to date.

What A Rose took the other $5,130 division for the team of driver Roland Rey, who also bred the youngster, and owner/trainer Arthur Rey of St. Claude, MB. The daughter of Prince Brian-Countess P J got away fifth from Post 7 before picking up cover and driving off to win by 3-1/2 lengths in 2:00.1. K C Abba was second best and Gaits Princess took home the show award.

It was a career-best clocking for What A Rose, who was unraced as a rookie but has put together an impressive 5-2-0 record in seven starts this season. Her bankroll climbed to $16,476 with the win.
