The Red Mile Kicks Off 136th Season Sunday
The second oldest harness racetrack in the world, The Red Mile, will kick-off it's 136th season of racing this Sunday night, August 15 with a 16-race program
. Racing will be Sundays, Mondays (no racing Monday, August 16, August 30, or September 20), and Thursdays throughout the first eight weeks with a post of 6:30 p.m. each evening.
Thursday nights will offer great value for racing fans with a "Dollar/College Night" promotion that will run throughout the entirety of the meet. College students will gain free admission and a free race program with a valid college ID, while everyone will be able to take advantage of $1 draft beer, $1 soft drinks, $1 hot dogs, and $1 admission. "Sippin' Sundays" will offer patrons wine and bourbon specials each Sunday evening throughout the course of the racing season as well.
Fans wagering on this year's races will also notice a $1 Pick 4 wager with an estimated pool of $10,000 that will be offered nightly on races 7-10.
The Red Mile will once again host the richest night of horse racing in Lexington this season, when the top two and three-year-old Kentucky-sired trotters and pacers take to the historic red clay track in the $2.4 million Kentucky Sire Stakes Championships on Sunday, September 12.
Grand Circuit racing gets underway on Wednesday, October 13, with racing Wednesday through Saturday through October 23 and a 12:30 p.m. post time each afternoon. Purses for the stakes filled eight-day Grand Circuit meet will be in excess of $8 million dollars, which will once again attract the very best trotters and pacers in the world to Lexington, as it does each and every fall. The two-week Grand Circuit meet will be highlighted by the $800,000 Kentucky Futurity, the third and final jewel of the Trotting Triple Crown, which will be renewed for the 120th time on Saturday, October 16.
