17-1 Babes Gold Pockets President’s Pace

Brodie MacPhee worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard Babes Gold, the longest shot on the board, to win the $2,000 President's Pace on Friday night at Charlottetown Driving Park

Sent postward at odds of 17-1, Babes Gold tucked into the two-hole after leaving from Post 4 and followed insider starter Blue Star Outlaw (Jason Hughes) through fractions of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:28.3 before unleashing a :28.3 final frame to come on for the win. The five-year-old son of Allamerican Ingot-Shake It Babe prevailed by a length and a quarter in 1:57.3 over the pacesetter and favourite C L Eighty (Kenny Arsenault).

Babes Gold paid $36.90 to win for the sixth time in 21 starts this year. The gelding won his 100th career start, getting him to the winner’s circle for the 18th time. His lifetime earnings now stand at $64,036.
