Tetrick Takes Nine At Pocono
Tim Tetrick had already put together an amazing Tuesday afternoon at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, but Upfront Hannahsboy provided him with the perfect closing act.
On a day in which Tetrick drove nine winners, including four for Pennsylvania Sire Stakes, he guided Upfront Hannahsboy to a win in the finals stakes division of the day. The colt halted the clock in 1:49:2, a new track record at Pocono for three-year-old pacing colts.
Overall there were five Pennsylvania Sire Stakes divisions held at Pocono for three-year-old colts and geldings on the pace. The races held purses ranging from $42,152 to $42,553.
Upfront Hannahsboy stayed off the pace early before pouncing on the lead around the final turn. The colt from the Jim Arledge Jr. barn easily sped by the tiring horses in front to coast home in a time of 1:49:2. Jo Pas Wild Card finished second and Shadow Play was third.
It was the third straight win for Upfront Hannahsboy, owned by Ed Mullinax of Amherst, OH. The colt, sired by Dragon Again, added to a season that has already seen him pick up stakes wins at The Meadows, Mohawk and Northfield Park.
Tetrick and Arledge also hooked up for a Sire stakes win with Sand Shooter, who romped to a 1:50/2 score in his split. Keystone Nautilus was best of the rest and Brother Ray finished third.
For Sand Shooter, owned by Bill Sanders of Stevenson, AL, and Jerry Silva of Long Beach, NY, it was his second win in five tries this year. Both of the wins for the colt, sired by Western Hanover, have come in Sire Stakes competition.
Trainer Carmine Fusco also had a huge day with six victories, and he and Tetrick were in charge of Drive All Night, who took his division in 1:50:3. The colt took over with a three-wide move on the back stretch and just held off Lonestar Legend. Stonebridge Magnum was third.
It was the second straight win for Drive All Night, stabled at Pocono and locally owned by Joseph Limongelli of Pittston, PA. The gelding, sired by Real Artist, now owns 14 wins in 22 lifetime races.
Tetrick kicked off the Sire Stakes action with a win behind Mystery Chase in 1:50:3. The colt from the Jim Campbell barn survived a tough first-over grind to defeat favoured Blueridge Western and third-place finisher Lookout Hanover.
Mystery Chase, owned by Arlene and Jules Siegel of New Hope, PA, won for the third time in six tries this year. The colt, sired by Real Artist, sits atop the Sire stakes standings for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings with a place and two wins in the first three legs.
In another division, Lisfinny rallied from off the pace to get up for a victory in 1:50:1. The colt from the Bob McIntosh barn was driven to win by Ron Pierce. Lisfinny outpaced runner-up Goddesss Justin and First Rate, who finished third.
Lisfinny, sired by The Panderosa, won for the fifth time in eight tries in 2008 despite racing for the first time in more than a month. The shipper from Canada was making his PASS debut for owners Bob McIntosh Stables Inc., CSX Stables and Al McIntosh Holdings Inc.
