Faves Take Rideau Preferreds
Montreal Phil and Bank President took home the lion’s share of the purse in their respective $14,000 Preferred assignments at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and
that was music to the ears of the favourite players.
Bank President, who was sent off as the 6-5 choice in the nine-horse affair, went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a 1:58.2 score for the tandem of driver Brad Forward and trainer Shawn Robinson. The six-year-old son of Keystone Nordic controlled the tempo through fractions of :28.4, :59 and 1:28.2 before finishing off his foes with a :30-second final frame. It was three-quarters of a length back to runner-up Silverado Dream. Third prize was earned by Unbounded River, who did the first-over work.
Ian Fromowitz of Richmond Hill, ON and Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, QC share ownership on the gelding who won for the 15th time in his career. The has stashed away more than $187,000 in earnings to date.
Montreal Phil clicked as the 8-5 favourite in the Preferred Pace for driver Stephane Gendron and trainer Guy Corbeil. The six-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding shot to immediate command and successfully chopped out fractions of :26.3, :57.3 and 1:26.1 before using a :29.3 closer to win by three-quarters of a length over Imjustalittleguy in 1:55.4. Viper Select rallied from far back to finish third.
Hudson Standardbred Stb Inc of Hudson, QC owns the gelding who is now 2-for-13 this season after going winless in seven starts last year. The 17-time winner has managed to stash away in excess of $141,000 in his career.
