A Pretty Big Mile For Pretty Katherine
Two-year-old pacing filly Pretty Katherine is already making headlines in just her second lifetime start thanks to a 1:54 track record setting performance at Georgian Downs on Friday night for trainer Casie Coleman
.
In the Friday night opener, a fillies and mares non-winners of one or $10,000 lifetime event, Pretty Katherine left from the inside post position and settled in third under the direction of Mark MacDonald as Early Paroll (Paul MacKenzie) took control and Noartographsplease (Stephen Byron) dropped into the pocket. Early Paroll proceeded to show the way for most of the mile, carving out fractions of :27.2, :56.3 and 1:25.
As the field raced past the third quarter mark, Pretty Katherine swept to command and opened up six lengths on her rivals with a :28.3 final quarter. She stopped the clock in 1:54, lowering A Fiesty Affair’s 2007 track record for freshmen filly pacers by one-fifth of a second. Inaclassbyherself (Simon Allard) finished second and Noartographsplease was third.
Pretty Katherine paid $2.10 to win as the heavy 1-9 favourite. The daughter of Rocknroll Hanover-Fox Valley Shaker, now undefeated in two starts, picked up her first win at Mohawk Racetrack on July 16 in a matching time of 1:54. John Liviakis of Mill Valley, California purchased the bay filly for $120,000 at the Harrisburg Sale as a yearling.
