Gianna Matches Hiawatha Record

Gianna earned a share of the track record for older trotting mares at Hiawatha Horse Park after she toured the oval on Thursday evening in a snappy clocking of 1:56.3

.

The performance matched the track record established earlier this year by Quando. She circled the Sarnia strip in 1:56.3 on June 17.

Gianna sat fifth throughout the first half of her Thursday evening assignment before she edged off the rail and went after the leaders. She was a first-over third at the three-quarter pole, but her :29.3 final frame propelled her to the top in the late stages of the mile and she sustained that speed to the finish.

She had 2-3/4 lengths to spare over Up Front Ben en route to posting the 1:56.3 victory. Cadillac Kid tagged along to finish third in the $7,000 tilt for trotters.

Eric Carlson was partnered with the Wayne Carter-trained six-year-old daughter of Davanti. Wayne and Jean Carter of Imlay City, MI hold the papers on the 23-time winner. The lion’s share of the purse bumped her overall bankroll to $262,936.
