Serious Mile For Dr Dew
Dr Dew stamped himself as North America’s fastest two-year-old of the season on a half mile track thanks to an eye-catching clocking of 1:54.2 on Sunday evening
at Flamboro Downs.
With J.R. Plante at the controls, Dr Dew was stacked up three wide at the quarter pole before he was allowed to clear to the position of command. Once in charge of the tempo, the son of Royal Mattjesty-Wave At Sam blazed his way through panels of :57.1 and 1:26.3 before storming home in :27.4 for the 1:54.2 decision. Twin B Legend was a neck behind the winner, and Live And Learn was a well-beaten third.
Bill Windsor conditions the gelding for the Uncirculated Stable of Brantford, ON. The 1:54.2 victory was a maiden-breaking effort for the pacer, who erased Prodigal Seelster’s name off the North American season’s record for two-year-old pacers on a half-mile track. That colt stepped around Grand River Raceway’s half-miler in 1:55 in last Monday’s Battle of Waterloo elimination round.
