Andro Peanut Equals Northside Record
Andro Peanut wired the field of conditioned pacers in the 10th race at Northside Downs’ on Saturday afternoon and equaled the track record for aged pacing horses
in the process.
With driver Bruce McGean in the bike for trainer and owner Norm Fiander, odds-on favourite Andro Peanut sprinted past panels of :29.1, :58.1 and 1:28.1 en route a three length score in a career-best 1:57.3. Nu Xample (Greg Bailey) and Fern Hill Thunder (Angelo Camilli) finished second and third.
St Pete Star first set the 1:57.3 record mark for older horses in July 2008. The overall 1:55 track record for aged males, set last weekend, is held by gelding Outlawpositivcharg.
The win was Andro Peanut’s third in a row and fifth of the season in 21 starts. The six-year-old son of House Of Fun-Rose Damour now boasts 15 wins and $35,128 in earnings on his lifetime record.
McGean also captured the featured $1,000 Winners Over Pace with 3-1 second choice Sir Dutch a few races later. He directed the four-year-old gelded son of Real Artist-Kinki around the North Sydney half-mile oval past fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:27.3 before stopping the clock in 1:57.1. Cruisinart (Ryan Campbell) finished a half-length behind in second and Shifty Shadow (Edgar Jacob) finished third.
Sir Dutch, a four-time winner this year in 24 starts, recorded his 11th victory overall and bumped his bankroll to $26,679.
