Takter: 'Industry Must Promote Itself'
It may have appeared at the bottom of an article regarding how slot machines have been a short-term saviour for Pennsylvania, but a quote by world-class trainer Jimmy Takter more than states the obvious. "The industry has got to learn how to promote themselves," he said
.
Takter's quote has come via an article on pittsburghlive.com -- an article which highlights that the $500,000 Delvin Miller Adios is this weekend at the Meadows in Pennsylvania, and that the state's horse racing industry has been temporarily saved by revenue allocated to the industry via slot machines and other forms of expanded gaming.
What the article also explains is that just because Pennsylvania has increased purses and a sustained form of income via the machines, it is not the answer for the future of racing.
Takter's full quote in the article is this: "The industry has got to learn how to promote themselves. They have to spend money on marketing. They can't depend on casino money. You never know. You have elections every year. You get a new governor, and maybe he doesn't care about the equine industry."
