Update On OK Commander
Following the scratch of OK Commander from the $1 million Meadowlands Pace, Trot Insider caught up with the colt’s trainer, Gregg McNair, for an update
on his condition.
After turning in a dazzling 1:47.4 mile in his elimination for the Meadowlands Pace on July 10 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, OK Commander was scratched from $1 million final the following Saturday.
McNair told Trot Insider that his colt suffered a painful injury up high on his right front but confirmed that there were no breaks or tears in the leg and he should be back racing within a month.
“He’s down in Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky right now,” said McNair. “We’re going to try to patch him up to resume racing and finish up the year. He won’t start back for two more weeks. He’ll be ready to start jogging then and if he’s still off we’ll quit with him for the year.”
The promising son of Art Major-Double Crème is being treated by Dr. Larry Bramlage in Kentucky and will head home tomorrow morning.
“It’s as sore as hell what he’s got but Dr. Bramlage says there’s a chance he could be patched up and it won't hurt him to continue racing and training.”
“I hope we get to do some more racing. He’ll be back sometime, but I hope it’s in the next three to four weeks."
