Upsets In Rideau Preferreds
A mild upset took place in the co-featured Preferred Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, but it was a complete shocker in the co-featured Preferred Pace
.
Paddington, who was sent off at odds of 5-1, front-stepped his way to a 1:56.3 triumph in the $14,000 Preferred Trot for driver Guy Gagnon. It was the gelding’s fourth win in his last five starts, and it was his third win in four tries since being claimed and placed in the barn of trainer Gerard Demers.
The seven-year-old son of Credit Winner battled long and hard with Finnegan before edging out that foe by a head. Star Ruffnready tracked cover and wound up finishing third in the six-horse affair.

Viper Select eked out a nose decision in the $14,000 Preferred Pace, and he did so as a 31-1 outsider for driver Donald Jobin and trainer Regent Guindon. The five-year-old son of Dauntless Bunny rallied from last to post the 1:53.1 victory over even-money favourite Imjustalittleguy. Aint No Hearsay was third.
