Lone Thunder Trot Split To Stonebridge Royal
Stonebridge Royal survived a first over journey to win the lone $7,000 second leg division of the Thunder Trot Claiming Series at Sudbury Downs on Saturday night
.
Armbro Acme (Pascal Berube) was the one to track down as he led the way through stations of :28.4, :59.1 and 1:30. Stonebridge Royal, with Allan Hohner in the bike, did just that as he angled out from fifth after the first quarter mark and worked his way to the top through the middle fractions. The 6-1 sixth choice in the field of nine took control in the stretch and went on to prevail by over a length in 2:01. Lady Sylberun (Mike MacNeill) closed from the backfield to get second with Acrobate Car (Keith Jones) coming on for third.
Stonebridge Royal paid $15.60 for the upset. The gelded son of Yankee Paco-Royal Bait, who finished third in his opening leg division, has won three times in 18 starts earning $12,480 during his six-year-old campaign. The winner of six races and $51,700 lifetime is trained by Paul Ruhl for owner James Ruhl of Tara, ON.
