Extraordinaire In An OSS Gold Shocker
Sent postward as the longest shot on the board at odds of 45-1, Extraordinaire defied her odds with a perfect pocket trip in a field full of breakers to win the $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for two-year-old filly trotters at Flamboro Downs on Friday night
.
Extraordinaire and trainer-driver Wayne Henry fired off the gate from Post 2 but gave way to the popular elimination winner, Peach Martini (Rick Zeron), after the :30.1 opening quarter. The daughter of Duke Of York-She Has It played follow the leader past the half in 1:01.1 while Lady Love (Paul MacLean) advanced first up and took it to Peach Martini en route to the 1:31.4 three-quarter mark. Those two battled nose-to-nose in the stretch while Extraordinaire went wide and swept past them both with a :30-second final frame to win in 2:02.1. Peach Martini finished two lengths back in second over Lady Love while the rest of the field finished over 30 lengths behind after making breaks throughout the mile.
Extraordinaire paid an extraordinary $92.60 to win. The bay filly picked up her first win and boosted her earnings to $68,200 after finishing fourth in her elimination last week. She was a $16,000 Forest City sale purchase for the Henry Stable of Arthur and James Laverty of Sauble Beach, ON.
