Concussion Educational Video Available

An eight minute educational video about the importance issues regarding concussions for the harness racing community is now available on YouTube

Dr. Nirav Shah, neurosurgeon and concussion expert, discusses the important facts about concussions. If not treated and managed properly, a concussion can result in permanent brain damage and even death. Concussions are a form of brain injuries resulting in over 50,000 deaths a year in US. Whether your jogging, training or racing, falls are a real risk in harness racing. Dr. Shah discusses how to assess, treat and manage a concussion. He also discusses a new tool used by professional and school contact sport organizations to assist in the detection and treatment of concussions.

The video was prepared in response to the recent serious concussions suffered by drivers involved in racing accidents. Dr. Shah specializes in concussion care at Princeton Brain and Spine Care. Dr. Shah began an awareness program with the development of a new concussion website (www.concussiondiscussion.org) for nonprofessional athletes, parents, school and sport officials. His client list includes current professional football athletes and organizations.

The video was created by Nancy Webster, a former nurse, Founder & CEO of White Horse Communications, LLC. Her company is an award-winning public relations firm specializing in the emergency response industry, heathcare organizations and political campaigns. Nancy has been a lifetime active member of the harness racing community.
