Sharp Words In NJ

It hasn't taken long for New Jersey politicians and horsemen to voice their extreme displeasure with the news that the state may be selling the Meadowlands

. "The last thing we should be doing is giving up this asset," Assemblyman Ralph Caputo has said. "Rather, we should be exploiting its full potential and modernizing it by adding video lottery terminals to the Meadowlands."

Caputo's comments come via an article on the matter on nj.com.

"VLTs at the Meadowlands could bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in new revenue and create thousands of new jobs," Assemblywoman Connie Wagner said in a prepared statement. "That is an opportunity we cannot responsibly leave behind. I will continue my efforts to make it a reality and hope the governor sees the light on this issue."

In another nj.com article, many horsepeople offered their opinions, including horseman Robert Siegelman, who said, "Atlantic City has always controlled the politicians. It's such a no-brainer: Put the slots in here like they have in New York and Pennsylvania. The tracks at Chester have slots and that's just an hour from Atlantic City."

For comments on the situation by Siegelman and fellow trainer Bruce Saunders, view the embedded video which appears below.
