Demers Dominates At Rideau

Trainer Gerard Demers enjoyed a four-win night at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening, and one of those wins came in the co-featured $14,000 Preferred Trot

.

The Demers-trained Paddington picked up the victory in this week’s top trot, and he did so by using last second heroics. The seven-year-old Credit Winner gelding sat just off the speed throughout the mile before unleashing a :28.4 final frame en route to posting the 1:56.3 decision. Silverado Dream was a lapped-on second, with Ironclad a bang-up third.

Sent off as the second choice in the wagering, Paddington picked up his 22nd lifetime victory for the 9174 7998 Quebec Inc of Blainville, QC. Guy Gagnon mapped out the winning trip for the square gaiter, who has stashed away more than $223,000 in his career.

Demers’ other winners were B The Snitch (1:57.3), Lockes Of Luck (1:54.2) and SOS Breezer (1:57).

The co-featured Preferred Pace turned out to be a triumphant homecoming for Priceless Edition, who trounced five foes in the $14,000 affair.

After going home empty-handed in a July 10 road trip to Mohawk, the six-year-old son of Real Desire had no problem returning to his winning ways for trainer Mark Steacy and driver Gord Brown. The gelding tracked Tyber King to the quarter pole in :27.3 before rolling to the top and laying down middle fractions of :55.2 and 1:22.2 en route to the 6-3/4 length triumph. Imjustalittleguy was second and third prize went to Tyber King.

Peter Heffering of Port Perry, ON bred and owns the 33-time winner, who improved his 2010 record to 6-1-4 in 18 starts with the win. He went past the $450,000 in lifetime earnings with the victory.
