More Two-Year-Olds Invade Mohawk
The back half of Mohawk Racetrack's Friday qualifying session was devoted to two-year-olds this morning, as Race 6 through 10 saw the juveniles strut their stuff
over the Campbellville, Ont. course.
Race 6 saw the Bill Companion-trained and Keith Oliver-driven Undercover Strike (Striking Sahbra--Under The Pines) leave from Post 8, go three-wide at the opening quarter, and eventually trot away to a two and three-quarter-length victory in 2:02.4. The mile was the colt's second-ever charted performance.
After spotting the field of Race 7 many lengths in the early goings, the Casie Coleman-trained and Mark MacDonald-driven Betterthancheddar (Bettors Delight--Lady Ashlee Ann) kicked in the afterburners through the back half of the mile. The bay colt was more than 13 lengths off the tempo before he got up to win by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:57.3 in what his career charted debut.
Bay filly Village Michelle (Rocknroll Hanover--Michelle Fantasy) took a rail-skimming trip in Race 8, as the William Windsor-trained and Steve Condren-driven lass repelled an advancer in the lane to win by two and a half lengths in 2:00.1 during what was her career charted debut.
Race 9 saw the Noreen Paulin-trained and Norm Dessurealt-driven gelding Full Force (Angus Hall--Bostonian Sue) put in a gate-to-wire performance from Post 6. The win time was 2:04, and the margin of victory was three and a quarter lengths.
The last of the two-year-old qualifiers, Race 10, was the scene of Unabating's (Broadway Hall--Malabar Memories) first career charted win. The Mike Keeling-trained and Paul MacDonell-driven colt tipped out on the final turn and trotted off to a four and a quarter-length win in 2:02.4.
