Rookie Pacing Colts Battle In ATSS
Summerside Raceway hosted another Atlantic Sires Stakes event on Thursday, with the program dedicated to showcasing talented two-year-old pacing colts and geldings

J G S Sandy captured the first of three $9,840 “A” divisions for driver Todd Trites. The son of Western Paradise-Liberator enjoyed a pocket trip behind Island Inspiration, who threw down panels of :28.3, :59.1 and 1:28 before giving way. J G S Sandy used a :30.1 final frame to stop the clock in a career-best clocking of 1:58.3. D J Supreme came on to get second and Calmlea Justin was third.
Bred, owned and trained by Angus MacLean of Port Hood, Nova Scotia, J G S Sandy put a smile on the faces of the longshot players when he clicked at odds of 11-1 in the eight-horse affair.
Putnams Power overcame a first-over trip to win the second split in 2:01 for driver Danny Romo and co-owner/trainer Ronald Seymour, Jr. The son of Force Of Life-Southview Shania drew off to win by 2-3/4 lengths over Tiger Williams. Third prize was earned by P H Turbo.
Bruce Donovan of Glace Bay, NS shares ownership on the juvenile, who is now 3-for-3 in his career.
The Streak celebrated a maiden-breaking victory in the final “A” division for trainer/driver Gilles Barrieau. The son of Quick Comeback-Streaked Blonde rallied to win by three lengths in 2:00.3 over runner-up Aarons Ambition. Enforcore grabbed the show dough.
The colt is owned by the Eights Enough Stable of Saint John, New Brunswick.
A set of $2,500 “B” division tilts went postward earlier on the program, with New School and Degrosmarshall capturing their respective assignments.
New School broke his maiden thanks to a 2:02.3 triumph in the opening split. Jason Hughes guided the Kenneth Wilkie-trained son of Full Scholarship-Quick Quick to the 6-1/2 length score over Acton Naughty and Windemere Express.
Whims Farms of Rothesay, NB bred and co-own the youngster with Tasha MacKenzie of Stratford, PEI.
Degrosmarshall survived a first-over journey en route to notching a maiden-breaking win in the other division. The son of Western Success-Johns Sister prevailed by a nose in 2:03.1 over Bold Harrods for trainer/driver Earl Smith. Third prize was earned by Roses Dream Boy.
Clifton Gardiner of Cardigan, PEI bred and owns the freshman.
