Reminder: Return Mare Residency Forms

All standardbred breeders are reminded that if you wish to be eligible for the New York Sire Stakes resident mare bonus award, you must submit the appropriate paperwork to the Agriculture & NYS Horse Breeding Development

Fund in Albany.

Performance awards are based on the racing records of your mare's progeny and will be calculated automatically by the Fund using each individual race horse's racing record.

Residency awards, on the other hand, require two forms to be submitted to the Fund each year that your mare is bred to a New York-eligible stallion.

To be eligible for the residency award you must submit the Residency Declaration/Arrival Form upon arrival if your mare was shipped to New York State. Even if your mare is a permanent resident of New York State you must submit the Residency Declaration/Arrival Form to report the beginning date of the residency period.

Once your mare has completed the 180-day residency period after having been bred to a NYSS stallion, you must also submit the Mare Departure/180 Day Declaration of Residency Form. Even if your mare is a permanent resident of New York State this form must be submitted since it is your certification to the Fund that the mare did indeed reside in New York for the 180-day period.

To be eligible for the residency award your mare must be bred to a New York-registered stallion and be in New York State for 180 consecutive days in one calendar year.

These forms are due at the Breeding Fund within 14 days from the completion of the 180-day residency period. Breeders should note that they will not be eligible to receive a mare residency bonus award if they do not send in all the required forms.

If you need additional forms, you may download copies from the NYSS website forms and downloads page. You may also request additional forms be mailed to you by calling the Fund at 518-436-8713, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or by emailing [email protected].
