Millionaires Lock Up During Qualifiers

Somewhat soggy conditions met the horsemen and equine athletes that took part in this morning's qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack, but that didn't stop notable stars Define The World and San Pail from taking a tour of

the Campbellville track.

After both lining up for the third race, Define The World and San Pail each took a different route in their morning assignment.

With Paul MacDonell at the helm for trainer John Bax, Define The World left from Post 5 and headed straight for engine. The Rod Hughes-trained San Pail, with pilot Randy Waples in tow, left from Post 6 and elected to sit off the tempo.

Define The World put in some work on the front end this morning, as he chopped out the fractions in :28.2, :59.1 and 1:28.3. San Pail began to launch his assault on the final turn, as Waples angled him overland for home.

Define The World would go on to win the dash and complete his gate-to-wire effort in 1:57. San Pail closed to finish second, one and three-quarter lengths in arrears. Define The World and San Pail kicked home with final quarters of :28.2 and :28, respectively.

The mile was clocked in 1:57 flat over the track which was rated 'good' and was given a two-second allowance in time.

Previous to the Define The World-San Pail qualifiers, two-year-olds were in action during Race 1 and 2.

Race 1 saw the Chris Beaver-trained and Trevor Ritchie-driven Honey Thorn (Here Comes Herbie--Seven Point) work out a pocket trip and win going away in 2:04.4. The bay filly kicked home with a 30-second final quarter and posted a three and a quarter-length margin of victory.

Race 2 saw the Cameron McKnight-trained and driven Mach Of Ballykeel (Mach Three--Teig N Reiley) take over command before the three-quarters pole and pace away to a romping victory in 1:59.3. The bay colt sealed the deal via a 28-second final quarter and hit the wire 11 and a quarter lengths before anyone else did.

Angostura was another that took victory this morning over the seven-eighths mile oval, as the three-year-old Dan Creighton-trained and Trevor Ritchie-driven Angus Hall filly trotted to an 11 and three-quarter-length victory in 1:57.1.
