NJSS Splits To Big Sky Storm, Winuendo
Freshmen trotting colts and geldings squared off in a pair of New Jersey Sires Stakes divisions at the Meadowlands on Thursday evening, with Big Sky Storm and Winuendo taking home top prize in their respective assignments
.
Big Sky Storm romped to a big win in his $25,500 split for the tandem of driver Brian Sears and trainer Chris Marino. The son of Classic Photo-Big Sky Angel sat just off fractions of :28.3, :56.4 and 1:26 before cruising home to win in 1:56.2 over race favourite Muscleaneous (Tim Tetrick) and Manriah (George Brennan).
It was a career-best clocking for the homebred colt, who is now undefeated in his first two starts for owner Domenico Costagliola of Pt. Pleasant, New Jersey. The youngster has banked $26,000 to date.
Winuendo delivered on a 6-5 pari-mutuel promise in his $26,000 tilt for the tandem of driver Tim Tetrick and trainer Ray Schnittker. The son of Windsongs Legacy-Repetitions used off-the-pace tactics to break his maiden in a time of 1:56.4. He defeated VC Chocoholic (Trond Smedshammer) and Gunga Win (David Miller).
Purchased for $90,000 at last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, Winuendo is owned by the Winuendo Stb of Middletown and the Arden Homestead Stable of Delhi, NY.
