Bob Probert Passes
Former NHLer Bob Probert died on Monday after suffering chest pains while boating with his family
. He was 45.
Probert was on a boat in Lake St. Clair with his wife, children and in-laws when he "developed severe chest pains" Monday, family friend Rich Rogow said at a news conference at the medical center on Monday night.
Regarded as one of the leagues toughest enforcers, Probert enjoyed a 16-year career in the NHL splitting time between the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Black Hawks. The native of Windsor, Ontario finished his career with 163 goals, 384 points and 3,300 penalty minutes - fourth in NHL history - in 935 games.
Probert also owned a number of standardbreds with fellow NHLer Paul Ysebaert and trainer Bob McIntosh, including O.S.S. star Mr G (1:52.3 - $303,961).
No funeral arrangements were immediately made. Probert is survived by his wife and four children.
