Update On Marcus Johansson
Driver Marcus Johansson is recovering from surgery following a scary accident during last Thursday’s baby races
at the Meadowlands.
The 31-year-old Johansson was thrown to the track when the filly he was driving, a Western Terror miss named Western Taryn, fell shortly after the start of the final qualifier of the Thursday morning session. He was transported to Hackensack University Hospital and eventually had surgery to remove his spleen.
“Marcus is doing much better, and hopefully he will be able to come home today or tomorrow,” Johansson’s wife, Nancy, told Trot Insider. “The doctors did a great job in saving his life. He lost a lot of blood and his spleen was shattered. He will have three weeks of bed rest once he gets home which is tough on any horseperson.”
Mark Ford, who trains the fallen filly, indicated she suffered minor cuts from the fall, and is expected to make a full recovery.
