Starlight So Bright At Georgian

In Georgian Downs' feature for the Saturday night card of harness racing - the $14,000 Preferred 2 Trot - horseplayers had a tough time deciding between favourites Homer Jay and Mystical Starlight. They finished 1-2, but not in the order most anticipated

.

As Logans Hero (Tony Kerwood) fired out from the seven spot and hit the quarter in :28 before feeling pressure from Bank President (Simon Allard) just before the halfway point, reached in :58.2. Mike Langdon set up shop behind Bank President with Mystical Starlight, and favoured Homer Jay (Scott Coulter) was third over down the backstretch.

Before the third panel, Langdon tipped three high and applied pressure through the 1:27.2 three-quarters and managed to finally wear down the pacesetter in the stretch. Coulter and Homer Jay were closing hard but could not make up enough ground as Mystical Starlight held on for a quarter-length in 1:56.2, with Bank President holding on for third.

Darren McCall trains Mystical Starlight (Credit Winner - Miss Lovely), now a three-time winner on the year, for Glen Hobin and Ross Bradley of Stittsville, Ont.
