Nine-year-old veteran trotter R Devilish Dude was euthanized on Friday, June 25 after suffering a broken leg in his paddock
.
A $900 online yearling purchase, the Michigan-bred son of Troy T - Kathys Devil racked up 33 career wins and almost $300,000 in earnings. Trained extensively by Blake MacIntosh through his career, 'Dude' was a half-mile specialist. Known for his first-over grinding style, R Devilish Dude had a mark of 1:54.4 and held numerous track records around Ontario.
'Dude' was recently retired from racing due to a number of racing related injuries.
"Blake and Leann have done such a tremendous job with him over the years," co-owner Les Garrod of LLCM Stable told Trot Insider. "We all loved that horse so much and are all just devastated to have things end this way for him. He raced so tough every night."
Please join SC in offering condolences to the connections of R Devilish Dude.
It was a hard pill to
It was a hard pill to swallow when I heard the news about Dude. He was a tough, never give up kind of horse that deserved a long, well-deserved retirement. Dude never raced for the big money and we often joked that if he didn't make all those breaks he would have had $500,000 in the bank easy. That wasn't Dude's style; he never did anything the easy way.
Thanks to my partners Les and Laurie Garrod, Blake who trained Dude, and special thanks to Leanne who took great care of the big trotter throughout his career.
Thanks for the memories Dude!
