An accident in tonight’s fifth race at Grand River Raceway unseated three drivers

.

The incident occurred at the top of the stretch, when the leader along the rail, Tommy Knocker (Gaetan Hebert), made a break causing confusion and interference among the trailing horses. He finished third and was placed sixth and disqualified.

Three drivers were unseated: Doug McNair (Mcelodian), David Edwards (Daylon Ace) and Dave Boughton (Lucky Artesian). All three horses left the track under their steam. Edwards and McNair were attended to briefly by ambulance crews off the track and McNair booked off the remainder of his drives. Boughton received care on the track by ambulance crews, was stabilized, and taken to a nearby hospital.

Trot Insider has learned that Boughton was x-rayed and released from hospital with nothing more than scrapes and bruises.

“It happened so fast, I didn’t event have time to get the swear words out,” he said of the accident. “Thank God for helmets and safety vests.”

Boughton was released without any requirement for medical follow-up and he intends to be back driving on Monday.
