North America Cup Draw Complete
The post position draw for the 2010 edition of the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup at Mohawk Racetrack took place this afternoon
at the Campbellville, Ont. oval under a strong Summer downpour.
The drawmaster for this year’s event was young Montreal Canadiens' superstar defenseman P.K. Subban.
The connections of the 'Cup' elimination winners All Speed Hanover, Rock N Roll Heaven and We Will See were given the opportunity to select their horses' post positions for the final prior to the open draw. Rock N Roll Heaven heads into the North America Cup Final from Post 3. John Campbell, the winningest driver in Cup history will catch-drive the Rocknroll Hanover colt for trainer Bruce Saunders and owner Frank Bellino.
"I think the first three horses raced all they wanted last week and that was a remarkable mile," said Saunders.
Elimination winner All Speed Hanover selected Post 4. Trained in Canada by Mike Vanderkemp for Noel Daley, the Cams Card Shark colt is owned by Adam Victor And Son Stable, and John Fielding of Toronto. Ron Pierce, who won this race last year with Well Said and has won this race twice in the last four years, will drive.
"It was a heart-wrenching race but a good result," said John Fielding.
"He feels good, he's a good horse and he'll take care of himself," said trainer Mike Vanderkemp.
We Will See, who went off at 12-1 in his elimination for driver Brett Miller and trainer Cosmo "Sam" DePinto, will head into Saturday's final from Post 1 . The son of Western Hanover is owned by DePinto's wife Shannon and Earl Smith.
"I spoke to Brett Miller and that's what he wants, said DePinto. "I knew that if he tripped out in his elim he'd have a shot. In the final against these horses, he'll need a trip."
