Duncan: No Plan To Sell OLG
Despite news over the weekend that the Ontario government was reviewing a study that recommended selling parts of key Crown corporations, including the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the province's Finance Minister stated
that there are no plans to sell any equity.
“There’s no plan whatsoever -- there’s nothing coming to cabinet,” Dwight Duncan said in an interview with Bloomberg News before departing on a week-long trip to Asia.
The Toronto Star reported on Saturday that Ontario is considering a proposal to create a super-corporation by combining the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, Ontario Power Generation, Hydro One, and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. According to the Star, the report suggested that selling a 20 per cent stake in this "SuperCorp" could net as much as $12 billion for the cash-strapped province.
The OLG operates Ontario's slots-at-racetracks program.
